Geraldine Bayly - Principal
BPlan, MLArch, Registered NZILAKaipara Coast Landscape Architecture is run by Geraldine Bayly and is based in Kaukapakapa, just north of Auckland.
Geraldine Bayly is a registered Landscape Architect with the New Zealand Institute of Landscape Architects. Geraldine graduated with a Bachelor of Planning degree from the University of Auckland in 1994 and then went on to complete a Master of Landscape Architecture at Melbourne University in 1997.
Geraldine provides professional landscape architecture design services with a special interest in play space design and parks, landscape and visual assessments, rural residential design, and community revitalisation projects.
Geraldine understands that the best solutions for a site often come from a pooling of ideas from a variety of interested parties. She uses a collaborative approach where possible, resulting in a much richer outcome. Geraldine sees her role as being to mould ideas and taking the unique attributes of the site and its surrounding context and history and working with the client to build on and enhance the positive features and natural characteristics, resulting in a creative and practical design solution.
Services include consultation, master planning, concept design, design development, preparation of plans and reports. Geraldine enjoys working with Councils, developers and consulting with communities. She has experience in presenting evidence at Council Hearings and in the Environment Court.
Experience
Since 2004 Geraldine has been working as a sole practitioner Landscape Architect.
During this time she has prepared many designs for rural lifestyle properties, undertaken a large number of landscape and visual assessments for subdivisions and designed a number of play environments for early childhood centres an
schools.
From 1994 to 2004 Geraldine worked in both Australia and New Zealand ranging from a relatively small Landscape Architecture Practice through to a large multi-disciplinary company. During this time she gained experience working as
part of small teams and large multi-disciplinary teams on a wide range of projects throughout New Zealand and in Victoria, Australia. These included commercial developments and master planning, reserve and storm water quality pond
design, rural subdivision development, district plan policy and resource consent applications.
Geraldine prepared many landscape and visual assessments for a wide range of projects including associated recommendations for mitigation measures and design. A large proportion of these involved presentation of evidence at Council
hearings. As well as this, Geraldine has experience giving evidence in the Environment Court.
David Bayly - Principal
David started growing plants as a preschooler, and started Kaipara Coast Plant Centre while at secondary school. David trained at Lyndale Nurseries in Auckland, studied at Massey University in Palmerston North, and under took more training in the UK with Hillier Nurseries.David started Kaipara Coast Plant Centre in its present site in 1994, starting with a bare farm paddock, and since then has turned it into a plant paradise, with 5 acres of nursery, 5 acres of gardens, and has worked to re-establish and restore native plantings on a further 10 acres.
Kaipara Coast Plant Centre is one of Aucklands few independent Garden Centres, and has built a reputation for quality plants that grow well. Most of the plants sold through the Plant Centre are grown on site.
In 2008 David developed Kaipara Coast Sculpture Gardens, a 1km walk through a wide range of garden situa-tions, with around 60 sculptures from leading NZ sculptors. The Sculpture Gardens have received great reviews since being set up, are part of the NZ Gardens trust, and have had tens of thousands of visitors from both NZ and around the world.
David is also involved in the Landscape Design side of Kaipara Coast Plant Centre, and specialises in Site Assessments as well as project managing landscape projects.
